Image
An image is a template for the running environment of a bare metal cloud server instance, containing the operating system, pre-installed software, and configurations.
Images are categorized into two types:
- Standard Images provided by UCloud Global officially, including various operating systems such as Linux, Windows, etc.
- Custom Images are specialized images created by users themselves on bare metal cloud servers and are only visible to the user.
Custom Images
Bare metal cloud servers utilize smart NICs and RSSD cloud disk technology. For Linux images, it has been tested that the standard image CentOS uses the 3.10.0 kernel and Ubuntu uses the 5.4 kernel.
When creating custom images, please pay attention to the following points:
- Avoid upgrading the kernel unless necessary, as upgrading may lead to incompatibility with smart NIC drivers, causing the machine to fail to start or resulting in system instability. If needed, please contact sales or technical support for advice.
- The base system has a root partition and a boot partition, with the boot partition being the UEFI boot partition. Do not modify it, as changes may cause the machine to fail to start.
- Cloud disk bare metal base images come with a UCloud Global customized version of cloud-init, which is essential for machine initialization. Do not uninstall or modify it.
- During image creation, the bare metal server must remain powered off, so ensure to pause current tasks to prevent unexpected interruptions that may impact business operations.
- Bare metal cloud server images and cloud server images are not interchangeable.
Currently, cloud disk bare metal images support CentOS, Ubuntu, and Windows, while local disk bare metal images support CentOS and Ubuntu.
